By For the Tribune

Posted November 3rd 2011

WELLAND – "Welland is very generous," says Jim Main, president of Welland's No. 2 Volunteer fire department. "We love to volunteer and we are looking forward to the food drive."

The annual Welland food drive is Saturday. Volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food donations from door steps across the entire city and taking it back to Auberge Richelieu on River Rd.

"It's great being involved. Everyone is waiting (at Richelieu) for the food and you hear all the whooping and hollering when you pull in. It's great. Then you have some hot coffee and soup after you've been freezing all morning," he says.

Welland Food Drive stems from 'unfortunate reality'

By ALLAN BENNER/Tribune Staff

Posted 2 years ago

WELLAND — The need for non-perishable food donated every year during the Welland Food Drive has only increased since it began in 1992.

“It’s an unfortunate reality that the need for this drive is as necessary today as it was in the early 1990s,” said food drive co-ordinator Monique Finley.

“Rest assured that once again, those in the Welland community who need a helping hand can count on the efforts of our committee, the agencies and the generosity of so many Welland businesses and residents. We’re all here and we’re ready to serve.”
